I’m a psychologist. I work with kids. I’ve noticed that lots of kids these days seem to have hearing problems. Or I suppose a more exact term would be listening problems. They hear noises fine, what they aren’t getting is the meaning. Especially the meaning of the noises coming out of our mouths. Blah, blah, blah.
Sort of like what happens when you call your dog and they completely ignore you. It makes you crazy sometimes doesn’t it? You just want to pinch them to get their attention. And maybe sometimes you do. Read the rest of this entry »

While glasses, contacts, wheelchairs, and other aids for people in disadvantaged circumstances are easily covered by health insurance, listening aids one might buy at a hearing center seldom are. Why this gulf exists is anyone’s guess, but it behooves the owner of one of these aids to take good care of them. This will not only ensure maximum function on a day-to-day basis, but may also help to extend the lifespan of the device. When you look at the cost of some of these devices, you’ll see why that is something to be interested in doing. Here are some steps you can take to ensure that your listening aid lasts a long time. There are few problems faced by people who use hearing aids for the first time and they can correct these problems if they handle them in an appropriate way. We are discussing few of them.
1. Don’t expect early results. Wearing your hearing aids on your first days and then expecting to enjoy a musical consort immediately will lead you to big disappointment! The immediate improvement in the hearing capability experienced by the user is sometimes overwhelming. Users must first adjust to this new form of hearing by getting comfortable with all those background noises. Read the rest of this entry »

In later years of life hearing abilities tend to decrease in a lot of people. It is true however that young adults and children can suffer from hearing loss resulting from a number of causes. Living with Hearing Loss
by: News Canada
(NC)-Hearing loss is a significant issue in the lives of many Canadians, but one study suggests that stigmas about hearing aids still persist. In a recent survey conducted by The Canadian Hearing Society, nearly one in four respondents reported personally experiencing some hearing loss. But one in six people polled responded that they would rather live with some hearing loss than wear a hearing aid-a number that jumps to one in five among those who actually report experiencing hearing loss. Let me give you the breakdown on Bluetooth.
Bluetooth – What is it?
Bluetooth is a wireless technology which allows electronic devices to connect securely and talk to each other over a typical maximum range of 30 feet. Initially, the two devices wishing to communicate with each other are ‘paired’. The outside ear is only to receive and concentrate the sound waves, which vibrate in air inside the auditory canal. The air is the one that passes it on to the eardrum. Hammer bone, which is located inside is connected to the stirrup and anvil bones, which is vibrated by the round window and the oval window.

Do you know how your ears work? I am afraid to say that not many people do, which may be why so many people, especially young people, risk their hearing so frequently. The problem with hearing is that, people rarely lose it over night. Typically, protracted exposure to loud noise will not have a noticeable effect until several years or even several decades afterwards. Read the rest of this entry »
